Vascular ultrasounds is usually done to evaluate the presence of blockage in the neck or the leg arteries.
"Ankle Brachial Index" is another test that measures circulation of the legs by comparing the pressure in arms and legs.
This test helps to determine physical fitness; locate areas of the heart that receive an insufficient blood and oxygen supply;
evaluate a person's prognosis after a heart attack; verify the effectiveness of medical and surgical therapies; and
determine an appropriate exercise program for people with known heart disease.
During nuclear stress test, a tracer is injected into the blood. The tracer, is carried into the heart muscle. A special camera senses the tracer and constructs an image of the heart. If there is a blocked artery, the tracer distribution to that area is decreased after exercise.
Echocardiography is a diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create images of your heart. This commonly used test allows your doctor to see your heart beating and pumping blood. Your doctor can use the images from an echocardiogram to identify heart disease
Coronary & Vascular Intervention
An angiogram uses x rays to view the the body's arteries and is also known as an angiogram. This is usually an outpatient test.
Dye is injected through a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) that is threaded into the desired artery. This will makes blood vessels visible on x ray
Angioplasty is a procedure to restore blood flow. During the procedure blocked arteries are treated from inside by inflating a small balloon to flatten the plaque that caused the blockage. Stent is a tiny, expandable metal-mesh tube that fits inside an artery and is used to prevent collapsing or re-narrowing of the artery. The picture above shows two types of stents.
Occasionally for treatment of blocked arteries particularly in the legs, a procedure is done to remove plaque by cutting, shaving, or vaporizing it. This procedure is called Atherectomy.
A contrast dye is used to produce images of the heart's blood vessels is pumped through a tiny catheter and into the coronary arteries. A physician traces the flow of this dye with an x ray machine to get a 'road map' of the heart's blood vessels
Heart Rhythm Monitoring
Palpitation is usually due to changes in the heart's normal rate or rhythm.
Monitoring of the heart rhythm is done with special portable recording devices, such as Holter monitor that records the rhythm of the heart continuously, for 24–48 hours, by means of electrodes attached to the chest. In recent years, these monitors have become smaller and easier to carry and conceal.
